Langinnov

Starting in 2021, I worked at a startup company called Langinnov for a year as their sole graphic designer. My job started with redesigning their brand, logo, and website. Then I started illustrating characters and animating some assets (and a promotional video) for their app, BLAST (Bilingual Literacy Assessment and Skill Tracker). I also worked on social media, pitch decks, and newsletters.

Logo Uses & Variations

For the logo redesign, the CEO expressed wanting to keep the speech bubble motif of the original logo. I decided on including two bubbles, since the company is focused around bilingualism and multilingualism.

I decided to use the red color that is used in the BLAST logo as one of the main colors. I also included a blue color that is used in the BLAST app. I showed how the logo works in one color, against darker backgrounds, lighter backgrounds, and used with just the submark.

Century Gothic Bold 

30pt - 80pt is for Headers and Titles

Century Gothic Bold 15pt - 30pt for subtitles, subheaders, button text, and anything in between header and body copy.

Century Gothic Regular 10pt - 20pt is Paragraph Style, descriptions, captions, body copy, it can be bigger or smaller depending on print or web scaling proportions

Gill Sans MT Regular 10pt - 20pt is the alternative paragraph style for descriptions, captions, and body copy.

Color and Typography

I decided on using bright colors that are used in the BLAST app in order to make Langinnov's design language more cohesive with their product. I decided on using the red color that is used in the BLAST logo as well as the purple tones used in background colors throughout the app. 

For the typeface, I picked Century Gothic as the primary font. Century Gothic Bold to be used for headers and subheaders, and Century Gothic Regular to be used for body text. I found this typeface used in the BLAST app as well as the old website. For a secondary font I chose Gil Sans MT Regular, as a web typeface to use when Century Gothic is unavailable.

Graphic Elements

I designed graphic elements unique to Langinnov in order to push brand recognition and go along with the graphic illustrations used in BLAST. 

These elements are inspired by the existing illustrations that BLAST uses in their app. I also chose shapes that were bright, fun, and bubbly, to match the tone of the brand voice.

Instagram, Facebook, Linkedin

I managed the social media pages for Langinnov, which meant creating content and designing posts to post on their multiple social media accounts. I created about 2-3 posts a week.

Most of the posts were optimized for Instagram layout, since that was the priority account for posting. A lot of the content was taken from the newsletters I would design and send out bimonthly via mailchimp.

After creating the style guide, I built a new website for Langinnov following the new design language I created. I was provided the content to include on the site. I published and maintained the website with any changes or updates.

Printed Materials

I designed and printed large amounts of flyers and brochures for Langinnov to use at conferences. I would also create digital versions of these deliverables so they could be emailed to potential clients and investors.

The flyers were made to recruit children to test the application as well as inform educators on what the BLAST application is. The brochures were handed out in person during conferences for educators, investors, and start-ups.
